Minbie bottle & nipple review

June 19, 2015 0 Comments
When I was given the chance to review the Minbie nipple (and bottle) I was thrilled. As a mom to a breastfeeding baby, I am exhausted. But as a mom to a breastfeeding baby who won't take a bottle, I am fried. I knew the second I saw the photos of the Minbie that this would be worth a shot!

When we opened it, I was so ecstatic to find that they mailed it to us all the way from Australia! How awesome is that?!

Inside the packaging was a nice letter from Minbie. A bottle (which I had no idea was coming!) and a 3+ month nipple. The bottles are available in either 120ml glass or a 210ml BPA-free plastic. The nipple is made from a high-quality silicone. They are available in a wide range of flows from x-tra slow for your newborn to advanced for your baby who is 6 months or more. The newborn feeding kit is perfect as a gift or first time mom. It includes a plastic bottle and slow flow nipple.

https://minbie.com/product/newborn-feeding-kit/

I right off the bat was very intrigued by the design - it's an elongated nipple that seems so much like what a breastfeeding baby is used to - Winning so far!

So was Palmer, apparently. Because I had barely pulled it from the packaging when she scooped it up and started sucking on it! I have given her a bottle three separate times now, each time from the Minbie, and each time she has drank it like a champ! The Minbie has helped our non-bottle-taking 9-month-old to take a bottle as if she has had one since 9 weeks! Fabulous!

I liked this diagram the best from the Minbie website, to show just exactly WHY Minbie is a better nipple design than other nipples. Why it's best for a baby transitioning to a bottle. Or even a baby transitioning FROM the bottle to be breastfed. I think the best part is the elongated nipple - it sits farther back in the mouth, just like a mother's nipple does! We are only a few weeks in, and the real test comes when she takes the bottle from someone besides me! Hopefully all goes as smoothly as it has thus far. If you have a baby struggling to take a bottle, you really should order the Minbie here. If you have a baby you have been supplementing for some time and want to wean back to the breast, you should consider giving it a try! Thanks again to Minbie for giving us a chance to review this amazing bottle + nipple, and giving mom a chance for some sleep!

Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit

February 16, 2015 2 Comments

When given the chance to review the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit, I was pretty excited! I have heard nothing but good things about it on my birth boards, and a quick google search made me realize it's the topic of many discussions on mom-sites. "MMSS", "Magic sleepsuit????", "Help! Is the Merlin Magic Sleepsuit really worth it?" were just a few of the many topics I came across while looking up what it was. Was it possible that a zip-up, "snowsuit" looking outfit could help a non-sleeping baby sleep? Would it help improve Palmer's sleep when she was going through a growth spurt? Would I screw things up by getting one for my already-sleeps-through-the-night 5 month old? What's so awesome about the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit? Would baby overheat in it? Was it safe? Is it going to be counteractive to the already safe-sleep practices we use in our home? (she only has a fitted sheet on her crib, and pre-Merlin, went down, on her back in an Aden + Anais swaddle blanket)

The day we received our sleepsuit in the mail, I was pretty excited. I won't lie - we had some giggles over the marshmallow-man effect it gave Palmer. It looks hilarious. First night down, I put her inside of it in just her diaper (the video is her first night) I carried her up and laid her in her crib right after the video. Let me warn you - I did not rehearse or practice, and I am apparently NOT the greatest at video reviews. But I know that I needed to get this blog posted before the info left my mind, so I am sharing the video anyway, in it's not-so-awesome, mumbling glory.

http://youtu.be/oJ2FpXWQ-PU

She slept awesome! No stirring around the normal 5:30 am timeframe like she usually does! She slept until just before my 7:30 am alarm went off! Amazing! She did wake up with chilly cheeks, hands, and feet, though. So I made a mental note to put socks on next time.

Night 2: I placed Palmer into the sleepsuit in just a onesie. My babies tend to sleep warm, and I didn't want to overheat her, so we tried it with a onesie this time. My only complaint from that night was her poor toes were so cold in the morning, again. I had forgotten to put her socks on after getting her into the suit! So the next night, we did a onesie and SOCKS. In the morning, around 5:30, she woke up to eat, and her legs had somehow gotten pulled up, into the sleepsuit. Bummer! I thought of how annoying that was going to be each night, to have to reach up into the tiny leg hole and pull her legs back down.

Night 3: Palmer went down in a onesie (and socks this time!) and slept 6 hours straight! Fantastic! She hasn't been feeling well, so I am not surprised she awoke after a mere 6 hours, but I honestly wonder if we would have even had THREE hours had she not been zipped up in the comfort of her new Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit. Cheeks and toes were a bit chilly, so apparently I just need to learn to up my thermostat for our bedroom temp. Palmer sleeps in her crib, which is against our bedroom window.

Night 4: After the cold feet/cold cheeks night, I decided to go ahead and give her a try in the sleepsuit in a light sleeper. We followed the same routine we always do - feed her around 9:00pm, and by 9:30, she is drowsy and zipped up, ready to lay down. She slept amazing that night too, however, when she woke up around 7:00, she was a little sweaty. I do know my kids are warm sleepers, so I expected this, but wanted to have a good comparison of the different ways she went down in it, to help with this review. So I know for me personally, she runs a little cool in just a diaper, a little hot in footed sleepers, and just right in a onesie, provided she has socks to keep those toes warm!

I love the snugness and warmth it provides to my daughter, and honestly, I feel she does too. I know that's the reason she sleeps fantastic when in the sleepsuit, no matter what she's wearing. Many nights, when she wakes up for the first time, she is frantic and fussing. When I get to her crib, she has busted out of the comfort of her swaddle and has one arm out and the unraveled the blanket and it's sitting on her face! The Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit has eliminated that scared-to-death, pit-in-my-stomach feeling I've gotten several mornings (or middle of the nights) when I wake up to her with a blanket on her face, wriggling to get out from under it.

I can imagine the Merlin would have been a great addition to our family several weeks ago! It's been a lifesaver for a baby who is slowly learning how to break out of the swaddle, but not yet ready to sleep in her crib without something swaddling her.

Maureen is the brilliant mind behind the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit. She is a mother of 4, and a pediatric physical therapist. When her own son wasn't sleeping well in his crib at night, she created the Magic Sleepsuit to stimulate the calming, comforting environment of his car seat, where he slept soundly. The sleepsuit is designed to replace loose bedding a promote back sleeping, giving baby a wonderfully peaceful environment to sleep in. It reduces their reflexes, which in turn helps them stay sleeping longer periods of time. Made from a soft microfleece outer-layer and a soft cotton inner-layer, sandwiched between the two is a layer of poly-fil, the awesome combination makes a just-right sleep environment for baby. Best of all? As a mom of four, I can't imagine how difficult this product would be if it had one, centered zipper or wasn't machine washable. However, it IS machine washable (win!) and also has a DOUBLE zipper which not only makes getting Palmer into and out of the suit a breeze, but diaper changes are fantastically easy too!

It comes in several different color choices and is affordable at the price of $39.95.

There are so many reasons why the sleepsuit is a great addition to our home. The main one? Fantastic sleep! With sleep, everything else falls into place. When Palmer isn't sleeping, I am not sleeping, and when mama isn't sleeping? Well, chaos ensues. So thanks so much to the Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit for eliminating the chaos!

Kidecals!

October 11, 2014 0 Comments

When I was asked by Kidecals to review their fantastic labels, I was pretty excited! I love labels. They’re the best for organizing things. Keeping track of things that belong to our family and kids tend to lose. Keeping my sanity with things in our pantry or my craft supplies. Soooo many aspects of my life! I think a regular plain Jane label in general is awesome. However, Kidecals? They are the Ferrari of labels!

• Waterproof - meaning, yes, they can get wet. What kind of regular, printed-at-home label doesn’t get ruined completely with merely DRIPS of water, right? These are SO much better than those!

• Washing machine, dryer and dishwasher safe - wait, what?! You mean the kids’ sippy cups can have a personalized and oh-so-colorful label slapped on them and STILL go into the dishwasher?! CHECK

My kids’ soccer socks or jerseys or even soon-to-be-baby’s cloth diapers can be LABELED and WASHED and label stays intact?! Fantastically awesome!

We have been using our labels for about 8 weeks now, and I have not had the edge of ONE peel up. They are on EVERYTHING. Each of our soccer/outdoor balls (we have 7). Bikes so they don't ever go missing from the neighborhood. Soccer cleats. Shin guards. Baby carrier. My Nikon and carrying bag. My Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag and matching wipes case. Even the bottom of my MacBook has one. I wish I hadn't been dumb and ordered WATERPROOF address labels, because I don't like wasting them on boring envelopes. But I will tell you what, ANYTHING that gets left behind at a soccer game (favorite water bottle or a lone shin guard), dropped at the mall (daughter's stuffed animal), or left at church (books, sippy cup, or one of my son's beloved GeoTrax trains) we will have the item returned if the person who finds it takes the steps to mail it back or look me up on Facebook. I have an address label with contact info slapped onto the side of my daughters car seat (hidden out of view, so hopefully in the event of an accident, a police officer or firefighter will think to look under the fabric!)

My favorite place that I have a label stuck, that gets the most wear and tear out of all of them, however, has to be on my dogs collar. Yes, she already has an address tag, but it's a scan-able one from PetHub and is scuffed, so thank goodness for Kidecals, who provide labels that are water proof, dirt proof, dog-playing-in-the-mud and scratching-her-neck proof! It's been on her collar for about 7 weeks, and it's not showing ANY signs of coming off.

My next purchase with Kidecals will most definitely be labels for all the dry baking goods and some individualized labels for each of my four kids.

Kidecals doesn't stop there! They offer a wide variety of other labels that will blow you away with not only their durability, but their beauty! They are colorful, quirky, and unique. You'll be the talk of the town! Decorate your home with their Wall Decals or Chalkboard Labels. Organize your life. Prevent a bad allergic reaction with the Allergy Alert labels, or add some fun to your life with some Mustache Madness labels!

Send your kid to school with his/her own unique, personalized labels.
Gift a set of snazzy Keyboard Stickers to your sister or friend.

Girly bows for your girly girl!

September 20, 2009 1 Comments
Photobucket

When I was approached by Michelle of Binga Bows to do a review, I almost said no, seeing that I haven 't given birth to any girls yet, just boys. As cute as my 3.5 year old would be with a colorful flower in his hair... I decided to give the bows to my sister-in-law, Melanie. My favorite thing about the bows, from the second we opened them, was the vibrant colors, quality material and the way they're put-together. Her favorite thing was the fact that they stayed in Macelynn's hair! They were the first bow she's come across that didn't slide out within minutes of being put in! What excitement that was! So, know that if your little girl has super-fine hair, the bows from Binga Bows may just work! There are five fabulous styles Binga Bows has to offer: Binga Bows, Binga Blossoms, Binga Clippies, Binga Beanies/headbands (perfect for your brand-new baby that may not have a lot of hair to clip a bow to!) and Binga Bow Holders. When I let Michelle know I'd love to review her bows, I couldn't believe how quickly she got the package to my home! It came packaged wonderfully, in a pretty fancy schmancy tissue paper stuffed box. It was fun to open it, looking at each beautiful bow as I took it out. Macelynn, my niece, looks absolutely fabulous in them. They match her girly personality perfectly! If you ever need super adorable, colorful, well-made bows for your daughter, and at a super affordable price, Binga Bows is the way to go! ♥ Also, if you're concerned about not finding one that matches your baby girls' new outfit, don't be concerned any longer! She offers a CUSTOM design service too!

Sweet Ruby Blankets

July 07, 2009 4 Comments

When I opened the mail I got from April of Sweet Ruby on Etsy (also at www.sweetrubyblankets.com), I could have never been more happy! A onesie, a pacifier clip and a binky blanket is what I found, as I excitedly tore into the packaging. I was instantly sucked in by the cuddly softness of the Binky Blanket. The soft as butter "minky" fabric was not only adorable and perfectly boyish ("Blueberry Chocolate" *squeal!* doesn't that sound good enough to eat?!), but it was oh-so-soft! I'd be happy with a pillow made out of Binky Blankets! Holden absolutely loves his, especially when he's tired. Now, instead of scratching my arm to bits like a cat claws a pole... he can cuddle/scratch at his immensley soft blanket! PLUS, we all know how bad it sucks to lose a binky in the middle of the night, right? Not when you have it clipped on to this! The perfect-sized, 14 x 14 inch panel of fabric makes it easy to find the pacifier, even if it's 3:00 am and there isn't a single light on. Baby doesn't take a binky? No prob. You'll be happy to know that the loop on it is big enough (and perfect) for snapping it to any type of "device" that carries your kiddo, so he/she will always have his/her lovey with them! Stroller, carseat, snugli carrier, bouncy seat, I even attached mine to Holden's swing! No lost blanket when we're at the mall. No lost blanket when we're in the car. No lost blanket when I'm at Target! It goes right on the handle of the cart. Brilliant!
So... an awesome blanket, woo. Woo is right... because that's not all I recieved from April. I was also given the chance to review (and boy has it been put to use!) a uber-cute binky clip. Sooooo much cuter than those other boring ones. No more fighting with those stinkin' alligator clips and acrylic nails! It simply opens and shuts. That's it. No pulling, no cursing, no struggling... easy to open, easy to close. Holden loves it, cause his bink is never far. I love it cause his bink is never far AND, with an adorable chocolate-brown-with-white-polka-dots pattern, it matches ANYTHING he wears!

Now, I can't wait for the day that he can wear that flippin' adorable elephant onesie! Whew, you're thinking, what an awesome business! She makes binky blankets and pacifier clips. Just wait until you see everything else this so-incredibly talented mama makes!

So, now that you know all the cutie-patootie things she makes, go on over, and check out Sweet Ruby Blankets!

*If you happen to be in the Utah area (or even if you're not!) make sure you go check out Crazi Beautiful Women, where they're featuring April!*

Fun + Funky + Modern = Eenamaria

May 07, 2009 0 Comments

When I got my eenamaria bag in the mail, I would have never guessed it would be near as attractive or large as it was! I mean, a bag is a bag, right? Wrong! Eenamaria bags boast an exterior of luxuriously shiny vinyl and a bold eye-catching red lined interior. You can’t tell me that’s not unique! Not only is my new eenamaria Workin' Weekend Baby Tote colorful (I chose this one, decked in white, black, green & blue colors.) but it’s totally functional too! I was completely taken aback at the amount of baby (and mama) items I was able to take with me (in it’s 31.5" linear measuring interior) when we went to my husband’s soccer game yesterday afternoon. Quite frankly, I think my husband may have been too. The fact that I didn't have my purse with me all day surprised him, and, much to my excitement, because it's "attractive" he didn't mind carrying it for me!

It's vinyl makes it a perfect diaper bag when you have messy kids. My son got his cracker-and-milk-gone-cottage-cheese-spit-up on the front of it. (He slobbered quite a bit too.) Any other bag (my current purse, for example) would absorb this lovely, wet, stinky liquid (if you can call it liquid) that came from his mouth. (Or his 3 year old brothers' melting popsicle residue!) But not this new tote. I wiped it right off! With a baby wipe. Nothing left! Not a drop.
The person behind the designing of the eenamaria purses, totes and accessories is Sarah Morgan. She describes the women who carry these trend-setting purses as “urban nomads”. With fun and very unique names such as: Mini-Take a Walk on the Wild Side, Murse or Purse or the I Mean Bizniss Travel Tote, there is a bag or tote for women from every walk of life. If you're a mom, a woman who loves fun, unique bags, or even a purse-o-holic like myself, eenamaria is for you.

Sarah recently debuted on QVC in February.

The Graco Quattro Tour Duo Stroller (in the most playfull, bold red and chocolate brown colors, a.k.a.: The Bombay Pattern!)

March 11, 2009 0 Comments
As a mom of two boys (Beckham is 3 and Holden is 6 months.) a necessity of mine was to have a decent stroller with all the bells and whistles that made my life easier. I know, I know, I should have gone with "inexpensive" or "weighs a mere 17 pounds", but being that it's our first major stroller purchase, and it was Tax Return time, I went for the best. Top of the line. None other than Graco. We decided on the Graco Quattro Tour Duo. It is the smoothest riding stroller we tried out. Beautiful, bold colors. I loved the red. Instantly fell in love with the red/chocolate brown colors. There are so many things about the stroller that I love, I could type forever! Let me just share with you a basic break-down of my favorite features:

• Easy to unfold/fold
• Comfortable, cushy looking seats for my boys
• Smooth rolling wheels
• Easy to assemble (it took me no more than a half hour to have the whole thing put together, in the babies r us store at that!)
• Large storage basket. We currently bring with us on our stroller-using-trips: 1 large orange backpack. One rusty-colored mama's purse. One black good sized camera bag that has my Nikon in it.
• Good-sized storage pouch, cup holders, and tray. Perfect for all the random things we have with us: pacifier (Holden's), Blistex (mine), keys to the car, the iPod, Hubby's phone, my phone, sunglasses (usually dads, occasionally mine), various trucks or cars (Beckham's), drink (sometimes all three of us have one), bottle (Dad's Holden's).

So... in a nutshell, I love my stroller. My boys love their stroller. Even my hubby loves our stroller. The only downfall that I have, the ONLY negative thing I have is the fact that it's heavy. 45 pounds heavy. That's about 20 pounds too heavy for my 5' 2", 80 pound frame. :)

See Kai Run and their big sister: Eleven!

January 21, 2009 21 Comments

Fabulously comfortable, eye-pleasing shoes = one fabulously happy little man!

My almost three-year-old son just gave a pair of See Kai Run shoes a test run! Beckham looked absolutely adorable in them. Next, came his new pair of shoes from See Kai Run's big sister: Eleven Collection. They're a branch-off of the same type, and highest quality shoes! I can't decide which pair are more adorable... the Boden from See Kai Run or the Kai from Eleven. They are both made of the best, softest feeling leather! According to my son, they're "soft on mine's feet" and "cool" looking. We went to get something for dinner, and he was more active then usual, running quite far from our cart. I asked him "Beckham... Why are you running so fast?" To which he replied: "Cause mine shoes are so fast. They're runny runny!" I about died laughing. They really are SO adorable and I'm totally pleased. They're so handsome on his feet. These shoes most definitely the highest-quality shoes Beckham owns! They're not just any regular shoe. They're absolutely adorable and so very eye-catching. Their style is unlike any I've seen before.

See Kai Run is an American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) accepted hand-crafted shoe store. Started in 2004, by a mom who was in need of hip, funky, yet safe shoes for her 2 year old son, Kai. In 2005, Nancy Coronado and Cause Haun met and became friends. That's when Eleven was born. Made of butter-soft leather, a breathable lining, and flexible rubber soles, See Kai Run and Eleven shoes are certain to make any little one (and mom) happy!

The folks over at See Kai Run put it best when describing the colors/styles available: Hip, urban styles in modern color palettes. That's exactly what you'll find when browsing through the sites. Whether it's the Clara, Sasha, Larkin or the Rio that grabs your attention, the catchy names have as much influence on your purchase as the bold colors that seem to be yelling out: "Pick Me! Pick Me!".

Don't you totally wish you could own a pair of the bold, funky, fabulously awesome shoes for your kiddos?! Well guess what? The people over at Eleven Collection have offered to give a FREE pair of their Fall Collection shoes to one lucky reader! Oh! That's not all! One lucky reader can also win a FREE pair of See Kai Run shoes! (From the See Kai Run or Smaller lines.)

Take a peek around at the sites. Make sure you stop by and sign up for their email newsletter to get updates and awesome deals! Come back here and let me know what pair caught your eye, something you love about the See Kai Run or Eleven line of footwear, and make sure you leave your email so I can contact you if you're our winner! Happy running!

*Please refer to the sizing chart to get a perfect fit for your kiddo!*

Nature’s Touch™ Baby Papasan™ Cradle Swing

December 29, 2008 1 Comments

Fisher Price just barely discontinued this swing, we bought one at Babies 'R' Us for our new baby. He loves it! The swing goes both ways, left-to-right (with baby facing you) or side-to-side. It has not one, not two, but SIX swinging speeds. My son absolutely loves the mirror that's on the underside of the mobile. The mobile turns while it's swinging, and there are adorable little bees on it too. They twirl all around. It did take us a little bit of effort to assemble, but that's to be expected, right? I was surprised at how easy it is to operate. The music can be overwhelming at times, which is a reason why the volume adjustment feature is fantastic! The seat that baby sits in is oh-so-cozy looking! It's easy to remove, and machine-washable. As a mom to a three year old AND an infant, that's a major plus in my book! The swing legs fold inward for easy transportation. (And storage too! Although, we don't have the need to put ours away yet.) The only downfall I have about this swing, is the batteries run out way too fast! Thank goodness for Sunbeam batteries from the dollar store!

Playtex Drop-Ins Bottles

December 10, 2008 1 Comments

Who hasn't lost a bottle while it still has formula (or breast milk, or later on, juice) inside? I swear our couch has a magnet system underneath it that sucks the bottles under. I just came across a "not-a-Playtex-Drop-In" bottle that I could have sworn I left behind at a Halloween party! I of course threw it away, because that's nasty, and I'm not cleaning it out.

Had I used a Playtex Drop-In Bottle, I wouldn't have had to thrown it away! My favorite thing about them is the liners. Seriously?! Why did I even use the "not-a-Playtex-Drop-In" bottle for his first 4 - 6 weeks of life? Besides the fact that it was smaller, and I like the silicone nipples, they're so messy and hard to clean. (When you don't own a bottle brush!) Playtex are the way to go! I have used Playtex Drop-Ins for both of my boys. I have to say that Holden, our 8 week old son who is exclusively formula fed now, is much less gassy when I feed him with the Playtex bottle verses the "not-a-Playtex-Drop-In" one. They're so easy! You pop out the old liner, give ithe bottle and nipple a quick rinse in hot water, slide in a new one, and Voila! Ready to use again, without taking 10 minutes to clean it out with a sponge, or, my version of an improvised bottle cleaner: a wooden spoon with a dishcloth wrapped around the handle. :)

For ease of use, easy-to-clean, not to mention, very-much-like-a-breast-nipples, Playtex Drop-Ins are the way to go! They're now BPA free too! Always a plus in my book.
